Lissi Varkiza is actually the last southern suburb of Athens after Vouliagmeni, and one of the most expensive regions in Greece. The place can become very crowdy during summer time. It has some nice small beaches and the long beach called "yabanaki" (typical organized plage, check out www.yabanaki.gr) but you have always the feeling that you are in the city, that means the sea can never be so clean as you like.(my opinion) For the athenians who have no time or money to go for hollidays somewhere else its ok, but to come from Sweden and to go to Varkiza sounds a bit crazy ! (at least to me)

Kratylos:
I wrote before that Varkiza almost IS a suburban village to Athens...I love places like that, I like bigger places with a lot to do and with a possibility to drive around in the neighbourhood...The mainland is much more interesting to me....but as I say: That is MY opinion! For me it is NOT crazy to spend a week in Varkiza in the beginning or the end of season ![]() ![]() Lissi |

Lissi you have a point, and i agree that there are many advantages like the proximity to a big city (with all the options that this gives to you).
And probably as you mentioned at the end of the season is nice. I have been there only 2-3 times "gia mpanio" during july and it was very very crowdy, thats perhaps why i have this negative feeling. And you can go for a dive in the lake of vouliagmeni ( very close to varkiza ![]() |
